Organic Turkey: Eberly/Dartagnan — Pennsylvania, Amish, Organic, Hormone Free, Free-Range, Anti-biotic Free
The taste and texture of this turkey is unlike anything you’ve tasted before. Only whole organic grains and pure spring water are fed to the birds: no protein supplements, added poultry or fish byproducts, no pesticides and herbicides. Additionally no antibiotics, no growth hormones, no arsenicals and no artificial light are permitted at any time. The result is a poultry with superb flavor, tenderness, 25% lower fat content than standard commercially raised turkey, and a delightful moist texture. Adherence to these principles led to the first approval by the USDA for "free range" labeling. It also led to Organic Certification in 1990 by the Northeast Organic Farmer’s Association.

Heritage Turkey Pennsylvania, Hormone Free, Free-Range, Anti-biotic Free
Heritage Turkeys are an heirloom variety that have not been hybridized over the years for breast meat.

Prized for their rich flavor and beautiful plumage, these birds are the ancestors of the common Broad-breasted White industrial breed of turkey that comprises 99.99% of the supermarket turkeys sold today.

With rich tasting meats more moist and flavorful than the mass produced large-breasted turkeys of today, Heritage Breeds owe their taste to diverse diets and extended life-spans. Dining on fresh grass and insects, these birds exercise and even help control farmer's pest problems

While still a domestic bird, Heritage Turkeys (unlike common turkeys) can fly and do not need to be artificially inseminated.

For those of you who have read Barbara Kingslover’s Animal Vegetable Miracle this is the same bird!

Please note: While we do our best to provide you with the exact size turkey you need, please remember that these birds are not raised in a conventional manner. Because of this, Eberly cannot always provide us with the exact sizes we need.
